When should my wheel alignment be checked?
Regular wheel alignments will improve fuel economy and are essential for even tyre wear, which will give your tyres a longer life. You should have your wheel alignment checked:
- When fitting new tyres
- Every 12 months or every 10,000 km you drive (whichever comes first)
- After the replacement of any steering or suspension parts
- After getting vehicle repairs because of an accident.
Why should I get my wheels balanced?
If the tyre and wheel assembly are not balanced or balanced incorrectly, this can result in vibrations occurring at a range of different speeds. A vibration can manifest itself and be felt through the steering wheel, the floor, the dashboard or the seats.
Correct tyre balance is achieved using modern sophisticated and accurate balancing machines that we use to identify the inherent imbalance of wheels, tyres and valves. Incorrect wheel balance can also cause mechanical stress and wear within the steering, drive and suspension components thereby leading to costly repair charges. Unusual or abnormal tyre wear can also be caused by poor wheel and tyre balance which can lead to shortened tyre life and tyre mileage.
Why do I need to rotate my tyres?
Nearly every vehicle and tyre manufacturer suggest you intermittently rotate your tyres so they wear consistently and last for a longer period of time. Tyre rotations are one of the most effective ways to prolong the life of your tyres and get the maximum value from your tyre investment.
Whether you drive a sedan, 4×4 or SUV, your tyre health will benefit from being rotated periodically because the weight and workload they carry are unevenly distributed among the four wheels, making the tyres wear unevenly over time. Rotations help to rectify this by distributing the tyre wear more evenly.
The frequency of tyre rotations is dependent on the vehicle itself and the manufacturer recommendations (these guidelines are listed in the owner manual). As a rule of thumb, get your tyres rotated every time you get an oil change or every 10,000 KM. For example, if you drive 20,000 KM per year you should be rotating your tyres twice a year.
