Run Flat Tyres

Black Car Driving - Run Flat Tyres
Run flat tyres are increasingly being used by manufacturers on their new vehicles in a bid to boost safety for motorists. At Beaurepaires we stock a wide range of run flat tyres at competitive prices.

Run flat tyres are designed specifically with a reinforced sidewall which helps the tyre to remain functional for a limited amount of time with no air pressure in the tyre. If you suffer a puncture while driving, the tyre will still be usable for around 80km. This gives you time to drive the car home, or to a nearby garage.

One key safety component required when using run flat tyres is a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). With the TPMS, an alert is displayed on your console – letting you know that your vehicle has suffered a puncture and that you will need to replace the tyre as soon as possible.

WHAT IS A RUN FLAT TYRE?

A run flat tyre is a tyre that is designed to resist the effects of deflation when punctured, and to enable the vehicle to continue to be driven at reduced speeds, under 90 km/h, and for limited distances – generally between 16km – 80km, depending on the type of tyre.

CAN YOU REPAIR RUN FLAT TYRES?

The majority of manufacturers advise against repairing run flat tyres, as the integrity of the tyre may have been compromised if driven on. Run flat tyres can be purchased online and fitted at a Beaurepaires store nationwide. If a vehicle is fitted with run flat tyres, it is generally advisable to replace like-for-like.

HOW FAR CAN YOU DRIVE ON A RUN FLAT?

Do not drive more than 80kms on a run flat that has had a puncture. It’s very important that you get the tyre changed as soon as you can. It’s recommended you do not travel more than 80km/h.

If you drive more than the 80km you risk damaging the wheel of your vehicle, which will cost you a great deal more to repair than the cost of a new tyre.

Fitting and service charges include the following:

Tyre Fitting & Wheel Balancing – Our friendly team will remove your old tyres and fit the new tyres to your wheels, while also balancing to ensure even tyre wear, a smooth ride and even weight distribution.

Tubeless Rubber Valve – This is the valve you use to put air into your tyres. Over time, these can deteriorate, creating a safety hazard. By installing a new valve we can ensure your safety when you need to put air in your tyres in the future.

Tyre Disposal – Your tyres do not go to the rubbish dump but to a sustainable processing plant to get broken down and reused for other products and projects.
